It’s a great weekend for handmade art in Knoxville Tennessee!

Here are two wonderful free, family-friendly opportunities to get out and enjoy both the warmer weather this weekend and wonderful handmade art all over Knoxville, Tennessee and both feature members of the Knoxville Creative Hands Street Team.

The Dogwood Arts Festival season is upon us and this weekend the Dogwood Art DeTours kicks the events off on Saturday and Sunday, April 2nd and 3rd, from 10am to 5pm at working art studios in the area. You can find a complete list of participating artists and driving directions here.

KCHST member Sassy Glass Studio will be open all weekend so drop by and say Hello to Lisa Mueller, watch her work or check out her one-of-a-kind fused glass art she has available for sale.  Visit Sassy Glass Studio here.

Homberg Art Market will be holding its inaugural event on Saturday, April 2nd from 10am to 3pm and Sunday, April 3rd from 12pm to 5pm in the parking lot of the Fairbanks/Terrace Theatre off Homberg in the Bearden area. FOr more information click here. Several KCHST members will have their handmade goods available for sale and would love to have you drop by.

Get out of the house, enjoy the sun, support local artists and craftspeople and stimulate the economy in your community!

Updates | Reminders | Feedback Request

The monthly meet-up will be on Wednesday, March 30th from 7pm to 9pm. My apologies for another change, but I will be out of town on the 23rd.

I am having no luck finding a venue for the event that meets the majority of the criteria presented to me via feedback from the Fall Show & Sale. All of the locations that would have been perfect are either no longer available, too expensive or I have not received a call back on. I would like to know what everyone thinks about holding our Show & Sale in Knoxville’s Old City. The location I am considering is next to Remedy Coffee. It is smaller than our past venues. As another {or additional} option, I am waiting to hear back from Remedy Coffee about renting their back room on Saturday, May 14th. Remedy is not open on Sunday.

Here are the things I need your YES or NO feedback on. Please send a reply with your responses by Wednesday, March 16th. Majority will rule.

Should we have a one day event- Saturday only?

Should we have a two day event- Saturday and Sunday?

Is the Old City an acceptable location?

Please share any comments you have too!

From Team member Hannah Turpin of Buzzabee::

My husband works at EdFinancial and they are looking for new vendors for their annual Spring Fling event that benefits Bowl For Kids’ Sake. The event is on March 26, 8am-1pm, outside of EdFinancial in the parking lot in Seven Oaks Shopping Center off of Kingston Pike. The booth fee is $25 (donated to Bowl For Kids Sake) and it is for 2 parking spaces with which you can set up anyway (tables, tent, etc.). Set up time is 7:30am. Last year was a very successful turnout of customers with over 40 vendors participating. EdFinancial will advertise it through several public contacts including Knoxville News-Sentinel and the community calendar. If you are interested, please contact Ashley Humphrey (342-5128),, and mention that Will referred you.

From Team member Cynthia of HeadOnTheWall::

Homberg Art Market to be held Sat. April 2nd from 10:00-3:00pm & Sun. April 3rd 12:00pm-5:00pm 2011. Shannon at Davis Studio and I are organizing an outdoor art market. We are looking for artists and crafters, vintage dealers and food vendors. If interested please submit at least 3 photos of your work to or There is limited space, and we are looking for diversity of product and personalities for the event. Please call 865-584-1219 for more information. We have decided to change the date of the inaugural event due to the Southern Market hosting their “Spring Fling” that same weekend. We feel that there will be more people in the area and it will be beneficial to those participating. We have truly finalized our application and can send them out or post them for download.

Here is an opportunity to be featured in an awesome local blog

From Team member Allison of DoveBirdDesigns::

I posted this in the blog/Facebook discussion, but I thought it might be seen more as its own discussion.
I have a baby blog that several members of the team have been featured on already. I love to promote local artists on it and have several readers. so… if you are interested, for no cost, just for fun, I would love to feature you and your shop on my blog.
I typically interview the artist, post a few photos of my favorite items from his/her shop, and in the past artists have hosted giveaways from their shop and offered a discount to readers for a certain period of time. This has large creative potential for whatever your needs are. All artists have reported an increase in traffic to their store and several have reported resulting sales.
It’s totally up to you and only something I like to do so no pressure to do anything. you can see past features here e-mail/convo me if you are interested!

Thank you all for being such an awesome part of an amazing Team! Please take a moment to reply to my feedback request for the Spring Show & Sale and I look forward to seeing you at the monthly meet-up! Please let me know if you have something you would like to share with the Team.

February 2011 Meet-Up {Change of Date}

February Monthly Meet-Up will be on the 16th {rather than the 23rd} at the usual time of 7pm at the Panera on Broadway in Fountain City. I had a new Team member ask if we bring samples of our items available in our Etsy shop and I thought that was a great idea so bring something for Show & Tell if you would like.

We’ll chat about what’s going on in our Etsy shops, the Spring Show & Sale and whatever else you would like to discuss.

See you there!

Snow Bird

Updates and Information

Just a couple of updates and bits of information before I forget to share them…

{1} February Monthly Meet-Up will be on the 16th {rather than the 23rd} at the usual time of 7pm. I will be out of town at a photography convention {Vegas, baby!} and won’t be here on the 23rd. I had a new Team member ask if we bring samples of our items available in our Etsy shop and I thought that was a great idea so bring something for Show & Tell if you would like.

{2} I am working on finding a location for the Spring Show & Sale coming up on May 14 & 15 and want your suggestions. Several members who participated in the Fall|Holiday Show & Sale suggested shopping and/or retail environments, which I think is a great idea, but I need specifics. Let me know your thoughts and suggestions! Send them to me on e-mail at or call me at 865.406.3870.

{3} Help! Volunteers are needed to help organize and spread the word about the Spring Show & Sale. Message or call me if you are interested in assisting me with this event. You don’t have to participate in the Show & Sale to help and there are lots of different tasks I will need your help with.

I think that is all for now! Please send any location suggestions or even other suggestions that you think will help make our event an even bigger success. We are a Team!

See you all soon!

Etsy Team Update | Mailing List 101

Back in November 2010 {I think} Etsy changed the way Teams are administrated and it involved some actions on the part of the Team Captain {Lisa Mueller of Sassy Glass Studio} and the members of the Team. Team members already listed on Etsy were easily transitioned, whereas any shop that had been added to the Team over the past year or so wasn’t actually on the Etsy list, just on the KCHST list. So all of the newer shops had to be sent an invitation to join the Team even though they were already on the Team. The problem was that up until right before Etsy made the Team change our Team information was not correct and I couldn’t make any changes. So I got all that ironed out in time for the big transition. If you have not responded to the invitation and/or rejoined the Team do so now, otherwise you will not appear on the Team list or be eligible to participate in any KCHST events. Please let me know if you have any specific questions {I tend to over-complicate things…}
Good news! The mailing list has been updated to include all of the shops that either migrated through the Etsy Team transition or who have joined the Team since November. If you are not currently receiving e-mails from Lisa@Sassy Glass then you are not on the list. We may need your regular e-mail address or you may not have accepted the invitation to join or rejoin the Team.
More good news! There will be a separate e-mail list set up for KCHST’s fans/friends/followers to receive our newsletter very soon. I would like to create at least a quarterly newsletter to keep people who sign up to find out more about us at our events in the loop.

So there you have it…a little update that will help everyone better understand some of the Team changes at Etsy.

KCHST in the Knoxville News Sentinel | Locally handmade products are big sellers

Ali James, Head Mom and site manager of wrote a fabulous article detailing the various opportunities for creators of handmade items to sell and show their work. Knoxville Creative Hands Street Team is for anyone who sells on Etsy, but there are other places to sell your handmade and vintage goods on-line or around town. Check out the article for more information. Ali also included a companion article referencing the different ways to sell handmade and vintage on-line here.

Thanks Ali for being a great supporter of the Knoxville Creative Hands Street Team and small and creative business people too!
